POST OFFICE in USM

Currently were so busy with all the projects and assignments, that's why left the blog with so dusty.

Yes, after Project 1 STALL, and then proceeded to Project 2 which is the post office, located in USM Main Campus.

This is the existing post office in USM.

First and foremost, yes, site analysis is required before designing a building. Even in Project 1, we had done the site analysis also, indeed now i know what to do in site analysis. Different from first year, the site analysis we did is so simple. Through the site analysis in second year, I know how the site analysis works with criteria that are needed.

We are assigned to design a newly-built post office either demolishing all the existing structures or maintaining some structures. Besides, we are also required to design a tower either attaching with the building or isolated from the building to be an iconic structure.

Thus, I maintain some of the structures and it looks like totally having the same Floor Plan as the existing post office. The building design is with butterfly roof and the green element that I introduced here is rainwater harvesting channel. The rainwater will be collected by the gutter and directed to a water tank and then it will be reused for toilet-used and sprinkler system ( refer SECTION X-X to locate the gutter.) The tower I designed is functional which is a clock tower.

SECTION Y-Y : The big tree is the existing green element,
for sustainability we have to remain it without chopping it off.

Quite satisfy with my end product, unfortunately they haven't been finished colouring.

AQUA

AQUA is created as a shelter for the people who have the chance to relax the mind and have a close contact with external environment. It is a place for leisure and relaxing. This form applies various principles of architectural design and basic design element in its design.

SINGLE SPACE STALL

Designing Single Space Stalls in USM

STALL A: The international students were given a temporary stall at the Islamic Center in 2008. It draws good business even from the locals especially with the introduction of Mediteranean taste. Now the Islamic Center wants to build a permanent stall for them in same site.

STALL B: This stall is at the highly populated RST dormitory complex at USM. It sells the essential goods that are necessary for student's dorm and university life. It is located near a food court and surrounding tall dormitory buildings (hardscape).

STALL C: This stall is by Fajar Harapan lake and greeneries. It will sell snacks and drinks to joggers, students and USM staff who often visit this site for leisure, relaxing and exercising (softscape).

My task given is STALL C.

GROUND FLOOR PLAN

As my site is located in the greenery space which is closer to nature, thus I decide to design the stall to have tropical architecture with a pitched roof.
In addition, I have proposed three walkways to ensure a proper and smooth circulation. The 3 walkways are:
1. Walkway from Fajar Harapan Hostel which enable the students to purchase snacks and drinks       here, not only the joggers.
2. Walkway connects the existing path to the stall
3. Walkway for the outsiders (pedestrians)

A small bar is designed for allowing the joggers to enjoy their meals after exercising and also they can have a chit-chatting here.
The louvers have been proposed to allow natural ventilation for maintaining the comfort zone inside the stall.
To ensure the security, the roller shutter is used to close the opening of small bar after the business hours.
The overhangs have been extended for allowing the shaded areas around.

Materials:
1. WALL - Concrete
2. Wood trusses with no ceiling (post and beam)
3. Pad Foundation
4. Metal decking for the roof

Axonometric (EXPLODED VIEW)

My work had been selected and I had to give a presentation in front of not only the 3 lecturers, and also the visiting professors from Arab. In the end, the comments are well-presented graphically, texture of the roof have to be shown, good site plan by proposing the walkways (I'm the only one did it --- from what Dr.Sanusi said). Just the design I have to improve because I PLAY SAFE. Overall, it is not bad actually, looking forward to have a better final product for the next project.

Stay positive and FOCUS :-)

A TROPICAL HOME FOR PARENTS

The last project for this semester
Given 1 month to complete 3 A1 boards
Yes, it seems like 1 month duration is very long
But time flies
After go through for so many crit sessions
The time doesn't wait for us
We're having running competition with the time
We have to reach the end point before the time ends
It always happens
Last project-----The toughest
Even we have started to do the presentation board earlier
At last, it still end up with no sleeping before the submission
But we get used to it
No sleep/not enough sleep/no good meal
Finally, we become the 'zombie'

We are assigned to design a tropical home to our parents
As what Dr.Mazran said
This project will test our skills on drawings that we learnt
( Key plan, Location plan, Site analysis, Conceptual sketches, Bubble diagram, Site plan, Floor plan, Elevations, Sections and Perspectives)
Together with 'HOBBY ROOM'
It can be a home theater, art studio, study room and etc

With a bar that consists of various beers, snacks and fruits.

In the early morning
We were still in the studio
And everybody was late
Some students didn't finish the project
But still have to submit
Luckily I can finish it on time
When the day of submission
Everyone feels sleepy while listening to the presentation
We are not in a good condition instead

I had been called to give the presentation
Oops. Without sleep, no energy with empty mind
How can I do my best in the presentation
Well, just said whatever in mind
Still can manage to be calm and answered the questions
The feedback from the lecturers is good

I can feel the satisfaction while looking at my hard works.

~THE END~
